David Braswell is the newest member of the Arizona State Senate. He was appointed to replace Sen. Pamela Gorman (R-LD6), who resigned to run for Congressman John Shadegg’s seat in Congress.

This is politics at the most local level. Legislative District 6 is my home district and I am the precinct captain of my precinct. Last week the Precinct Committeemen gathered to vote to send three names to the County Board of Supervisors who ultimately chose Braswell.

Last night we met as a district committee again, this time to send three names to the Board of Supervisors to replace Rep. Sam Crump, who has also resigned to run for Shadegg’s seat. The three people forwarded are Steve Kaiser, a young, up-and-coming former Iraq War veteran who is a voter registering machine; Dr. PJ O’Neill who is a trauma surgeon at the Maricopa County Medical Center (as you know, trauma surgeons are near and dear to my spleen heart); and Amanda Reeve, a solid activists who has volunteered thousands of hours to advancing the Republican cause.

There were 95 precinct committeemen represented either in person or by proxy last night, meaning that a very few people active in the process had a lot of say in who represents them. The lesson? Become a PC!
