Here is an update on Brett Mecum’s arrest this morning at Republican HQ. It’s a speeding violation. The good news is that it isn’t for a felony.

From AZ Capitol Times:

Arizona Republican Party Executive Director Brett Mecum was arrested May 6 by the Department of Public Safety for speeding and reckless driving.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Deputy Lindsay Smith said Mecum was arrested at the state Republican Party’s Phoenix headquarters. State Republican Party officials confirmed the arrest.

Smith said Mecum has been charged with one count of speeding for driving in excess of 85 miles per hour. He also is facing one count of reckless driving.

From Arizona Guardian:

He [Mecam] was booked for excessive speeding over 85 mph and reckless driving, said Detective Aaron Douglas of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. Both are misdemeanors.

The alleged violations happened on April 10, Douglas said. Further details were not immediately available…

…Mecum was in a meeting with state party chairman Randy Pullen when he was taken into custody by officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Phoenix Police Department.

I would love if this inspired Mr. Mecum to advocate in favor of ridding those horrid cameras off the freeways of Arizona. I have to admit that the more plausible response will be for Mr. Mecum to lick his wounds and perhaps buy a slower car.
