So now we learn that one of the reasons for the rush to pass a stimulus bill today is so that Speaker Nancy Pelosi can do a President’s Weekend trip to Rome.

This is either a showstopping, must-do crisis (which means it should be done thoughtfully and without rash actions), or it isn’t.  You can’t have it both ways, Madame Speaker.

Pelosi has been successful thus far at changing the rules until she has things whatever way she wants.

This post banks on you not knowing the four different times that Pelosi promised a bill on the President’s desk before the President’s Day recess, and the statements that no bill meant no recess.

But what I like about this story is how it dovetails with local politics, with Brewer signing the FY 09 budget and then flying off to attend the Super Bowl.

Really, it’s just all the same show, with the roles prescribed by whether one is the majority or the minority party.

I think that Members of Congress would have dealt with losing their recess if it meant having adequate time to analyze the bill AND a fair and honest debate in the interest of our country’s future. So what if Pelosi doesn’t keep her promises to the President? She sure doesn’t keep them to the American people.
