Senator Judd Gregg has withdrawn his name from nomination to be Secretary of Commerce.  Both Drudge and the AP story play it as Obama “burned” and that it came as “a surprise” respectively.

I don’t buy it.  Obama and his Chief of Staff cut their political teeth in the Chicago political machine, and this has the look of bus tires over the back of Gregg.  This is all about Gregg not getting in line while he still had a vote and supporting the Administration’s number one priority: the stimulus package.

Obama’s and Emanual’s political instincts are excellent, but their egos are blinding them from the benefit they would have enjoyed having the Republican Gregg in the Administration.  As they say, politics is a contact sport – which includes busses to be thrown under.

Wow. You really figured it out. Clearly this is what was being alluded to in this statement. Sneaky!
“Once it became clear after his nomination that Sen. Gregg was not going to be supporting some of President Obama’s key economic priorities, it became necessary for Sen. Gregg and the Obama administration to part ways,” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said in a statement. “We regret that he has had a change of heart”.

I wish I could believe that what Senator Gregg did was out of real philosophical conviction, but I think your suspicion is correct. More manipulative games being played at the White House!

I just threw up in my mouth. Really?!! You probably read my posts and assume I am clouded by naivety. That doesn’t bother me — I believe that you are a provocateur of partisanship. But how can I blame you? After several decades of partisan hackery why would the Washington climate change? However, this post is over the top, even for you. Gregg made many public comments regarding Obama’s stimulus plan long before he was nominated. He lobbied Obama for the Secretary gig, and once nominated, was beaten alive by the conservative media. What do you expect Obama to say? “Thanks Senator Gregg for trying to make it work. Let me give you a real pat on the back for embarrassing my administration. Let me just commend you for mocking my intent of creating a bipartisan cabinet.” Can you imagine how this would of played out in the previous administration?? Good thing W only nominated Republicans.

If nothing else, I do enjoy having you as a Bishop…It definitely makes coming to church a whole lot more interesting.
